Antique Victorian Bird & Ivy Locket

Measuring approx. 2 1/2 x 1 3/8 inches, with bird & ivy motif, fashioned in 15k yellow gold. The back is hand engraved "LIVERPOOL ARG CLUB EMBROIDERY COMPETITION 1880 1ST PRIZE". Inside is a hand written note that reads "Prize won by Aunt Rebecca Cardwell".  

Ivy is a sentimental motif that represents a strong bond. It is often seen in conjunction with the phrase "I cling to thee". This refers to the way ivy clings to a building or other surface.
